Dopo NN° 86 e 87. Domus M. Epidi Rufi IX, 1, 20. Alaorientale. G.K. Boyce Lararia N° 385 Domus Epidi Rufi. The r. Ala of the atrium was converted into a e” special room for the household shrine at some time subsequent to tne construction of the house, and a fine aedicula (h. 2,80) was then built sgrinst its E. wall. °) Above a high masonry base (1,25 by 0,80, h. 1,45) two sturdy Doric columns with bases (h. 0,75) in fe" front and two rectansular pilastres in the resr support architrave and pediment. The base was covered with stucco and psinted in imi- tation of red and yellow marble; around the top of it runs a red stripe. In the center of the front side of the base is embedded a sleb (0,35 square) of white marble benrine the inscription 00): o) This sacellum was built, aq we conclude from the inscrip- tion sffixed to the base, by the two ireedmen Diadumeni after the death of their master, and dedicated to the worship of his genins- probably in gratitude for their fresdom (cf. Overbeck-Mau). As for the date of the shrine, it is certainly of the last period, ns the nedicula itself, the late conversion of the ala into a sacellum the character of the letters in-the the inscription (cf. Bul?. Inste) and the painting in the Fourth Style a11 indicate. 00) From this dedication we conclude that the nedicula contained figurines of the Genius and the Lares, thdigh non were found by the excavations.
